Religious Education

Please find below more information regarding RE at Wellesley Park Primary School

“We may have different religions, different languages, different coloured skin but we all belong to the one human race.” Kofti Annan Noble Peace Prize winner

At Wellesley Park we realise that Religious Education has a significant role for the development of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It promotes respect and open mindedness towards others with different faiths and beliefs and encourages pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection. The principle aim of RE at WP is to engage pupils in an enquiry approach where they can develop an understanding and appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principle religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community.

At Wellesley Park RE is taught in 45 minute sessions each week by the class teacher. We use the Somerset AMV scheme to support the teaching of RE. In Key Stage 1, Christianity and Judaism are the focus religions and in Key Stage 2 the focus is on Christianity, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism. Humanism is explored in Year 6.

The children at Wellesley Park enjoy learning about a range of different religions and why people choose to follow a religion. Through their RE learning, the children are able to make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and the wider world. Through RE our children are developing an understanding of other people’s cultures and ways of life. The children will develop important attributes such as sensitivity, open-mindedness, self-esteem and appreciation and wonder. RE is invaluable in an ever changing and shrinking world.
